What are RSS feeds?

  • From Wikipedia: RSS is a simple XML-based system that allows users to subscribe to their favorite websites. Using RSS, webmasters can put their content into a standardized format, which can be viewed and organized through RSS-aware software or automatically conveyed as new content on another website. What are the "legacy" RSS feeds?

Why does Mininova report that the "Torrent does not exist..."?

  • Mininova deletes older torrents to save disk space. While the actual torrent files themselves are not that big, Mininova has nearly 200,000 torrent files. Assuming each are 100KB, that's about 20GB of torrent files. The problem with keeping them all is that most of the seeds (and peers/leechers) have vanished, so the torrent is more or less useless. Mininova does an "OK" job at deleting older torrents, however sometimes they mess up. For that reason, and for archival purposes I am planning on linking to BT-Chat instead.

Why does RSS Feed Scanner (or another client) attempt to download a torrent file, and fails, or is redirected to the Mininova (HTML) info page?

  • Mininova checks the referring URL. Assuming that the torrent actually exists on Mininova, if Mininova senses that the referring URL is not coming from Mininova, instead of allowing the user to download the torrent file, it redirects to the torrent info page. Many websites do this. Most clients have the ability to "Send URL as referrer," or similar terminology. This option needs to be disabled.

Why do the RSS feeds look funny (or messed up) in uTorrent?

  • uTorrent is 100% compatible with all of the RSS feeds on this website. However, it contains its own built-in mechanism for parsing the title of the torrent (one of those "human readable" features). Since this is the case, you may see items show up as:

    Prison Break []LOL]
    Friday Night Lights LOL]

A simple solution to this problem is to use the legacy feeds in uTorrent (mentioned above).

Why are shows A and B not listed on tvRSS?

  • tvRSS obtains its information directly from EZTV and VTV (currently). As a result, it has no control over what specific shows get released and which ones do not. If you would like to see a show get added, please direct any and all inquiries to the EZTV website forums.
